We have to dare to be ourselves, however frightening or strange that self may prove to be.
Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.”
Be yourself. How many times do we have to hear that? Until we are, and even then, it’s a good reminder. Outside forces are always working on us to be like them; to conform, to look, dress, and be like them.
Stop. Breathe. Decide for yourself who you are and what you want. Look to others that you like and respect for direction, but listen to yourself when it comes to the final decision. It’s easy to feel comfortable in a group. We all want to feel accepted and loved. We don’t have to be like everyone else in order to be loved and accepted. There can be nothing worse at the end of your life, than to look back and not recognize yourself in the life you just lead. In order to love and accept others you have to first love and accept yourself. Free yourself to be different and the rest will follow.
