The first man gets the oyster, the second man gets the shell
The conventional wisdom behind this quote from Andrew Carnegie would be that those who are motivated, self-starters are more likely to be successful than those who procrastinate.
While I certainly wouldn't disagree with the sentiment on it's face, it does make me wonder whether those who "play it safe" can be successful?
I certainly think so!
We all remember the story of the tortoise & the hare - slow & steady won that race.
Motivation, while important, doesn't equate to recklessness. Being the first for the sake of being first is really no better than being last because you failed to even try.
What do you think?
